Your objective in Blackjack is to get a hand that has a value as close to 21 as possible, without exceeding 21. If you go over 21 or if the dealer gets a hand closer to 21 than you, you lose the round. If the dealer’s hand goes over 21, every player will a score lower than 21 wins and should you obtain a perfect score of 21 you will win automatically!
Once you’ve placed your bets, the dealer will draw 2 cards for each player and himself. Both cards’ values will be revealed to players but only the first card value will be revealed at first for the dealer.
When you have the total value of your hand, it’s up to you to decide how to play your hand. You can either stand (which means not ask for another card and lock their game) or hit (ask for another card). The dealer will keep giving you cards until you’re happy with your hand and stand or until you go over 21 and bust. The dealer then turns to the next player on the left and serves them the same way.
Wondering how to counts cards’ value in Blackjack? First, you have to add the values of your two cards together to form a total score. Jacks, Queens and Kings all count as a 10 and the Ace can count both as a 1 and an 11 depending on the points needed. All the other cards from 2 to 10 will have their face value. For example, a Queen and an ace will score you 21 – a Blackjack – and you will win automatically. If you obtain an ace and a 6, your hand’s value can be either 7 or 17 and it’s up to you to decide whether you want to stand with a score of 17 or hit!
If you are really confident in your 2 initial cards, you can choose to ‘Double Down’, which means you will double your bets and only get one extra card for the whole round. If you are dealt two initial cards with identical values, also known as a “pair”, then you may choose to “Split” your bet. This means that both your initial cards will become the first card of two separate hands and you will play the rounds with two sets of hands with two separate bets. If you think your chances of winning are poor, you can choose to “surrender” and get half of the amount of your wager.
